Himeji is most well known for its incredible Himeji Castle and its surrounding complex. One of the most well-preserved of Japan's original castles visitors can explore the castle grounds and walk up the stairs inside the castles main keep, with views of the surrounding district. Kokoen Garden is a pleasant Japanese-style garden located next to Himeji Castle and is also worth a visit. For those with more time in Himeji, Mount Shosha is also worth a visit and includes one of the temples featured in the movie, The Last Samurai.
There are a number of hotels around JR Himeji Station, although most of our clients visit Himeji as a day trip from either Osaka or Kyoto.
Kyoto - it is approximately one hour by Shinkansen (Bullet Train) between Kyoto and Himeji.
Osaka - It is approximately half an hour by Shinkansen (Bullet Train) between Osaka's JR Shin-Osaka Station and Himeji.
Hiroshima - it is approximately one hour from Hiroshima to Himeji by Shinkansen (Bullet Train)
The timing of the cherry blossoms can vary from year to year but the cherry blossoms in Himeji are usually at their peak in early April. The Castle implements various crowd controls during April due to its popularity.
