Himeji is most well known for its incredible Himeji Castle and its surrounding complex. One of the most well-preserved of Japan's original castles visitors can explore the castle grounds and walk up the stairs inside the castles main keep, with views of the surrounding district. Kokoen Garden is a pleasant Japanese-style garden located next to Himeji Castle and is also worth a visit. For those with more time in Himeji, Mount Shosha is also worth a visit and includes one of the temples featured in the movie, The Last Samurai.
