Kamikochi is an elavated plateau in the Central Alps region of Japan. A national park area with pristine scenery with beautiful streams, waterways, and surrounded by mountains. The plateau is in the Azusa River Valley, at approximately 1,500m elevation above sea level. It features a number of pleasant walking tracks allowing visitors to wander through nature experiencing the breathtaking views and a variety of wild birds and monkeys.



There are a number of high end hotels located in Kamikochi, or it can be accessed easily enough as a day trip from Matsumoto.



Matsumoto - a bus or train and bus or private vehicle can travel from Matsumoto to Kamikochi in approximately  90 minutes.



Kamikochi is closed during winter so is usually open from mid-April until mid-November. Autumn timing can vary but the peak is usually around mid-October.
