Kurashiki

Kurashiki features a beautifully preserved canal area with willow trees and rice storehouses from the Edo period (1603-1868) when Kurashiki was an important rice distribution centre. Wandering the canal area allows you to transport yourself back in time with a nice variety of small shopfronts and restaurants now lining the streets. Kurashiki also features Japan's first Western Art Museum, the Ohara Museum, which features a vast array of Western artworks and is well worth a visit.
