Garden and Art Tours of Japan in 2021 and 2022

Small Group Garden & Art Tours of Japan

The garden tours of Japan take you to a selection of the most awarded Japanese gardens along with some exceptional 'secret' gardens that are accessible by our small group size.  The garden tours of Japan introduce you to some stunning examples of Japanese art, both traditional and modern. A number of the gallery buildings are worth a visit in their own right too!

Each of these tours has been designed to give a lifetime memory with a delightful all-round experience of Japan. You will visit many of Japan’s iconic sights, explore some magnificent gardens and galleries, engage first-hand with Japanese artisans, taste exquisite food, and come away with a deep and lasting impression of the Japanese culture.

2022 Season Garden Tours

The October Garden and Art Tours (Signature) have just been released! Our May 2022 Garden and Art Tours were released earlier this year and there is only one double place left.

The November Garden and Art Tours in Autumn (Comfort) have just been released. The first November Tour sold out in one week, and we have already received bookings on the second November tour. These two November tours target the autumn (fall) colours and also feature a slightly higher level of accommodation and a little more private transport within some of the cities, plus a visit to the small art island of Teshima from Naoshima (often known as "The Art Island").

Had a fabulous time with a great group of people. I loved the country, the culture, the people and everything about the tour – hope to do another tour with JTTE – maybe Hokkaido or Kyushu next time

This was my first trip with JTTE and already I am looking at the program for next year thinking about another one. I liked the fact that it was a small group, the organisation was spot on and the food everywhere was outstanding.

Where Are Japan’s Best Gardens and Art?

Japan has an extraordinary number of excellent gardens of different styles. Many gardens are very old and part of the old feudal era, some are even in the middle of giant cities such as Tokyo. The top selection includes Kenrokuen in the western city of Kanazawa;  the Adachi Art Museum (taking out Japan’s number one garden for 17 consecutive years); Korakuen garden in Okayama is another favourite. Kyoto does not miss out either with gardens like Kokedera (the moss temple gardens) and of course Ryoanji, the most famous ‘stone’ garden.

Art is such a personal thing and Japan offers something for almost everyone. Our tours include variety of art museums to cater for different taste from the Ohara Museum of Fine Art (exhibiting a superb collection of Japanese and European fine art) to the Naoshima Island (offering a fascinating take on contemporary art), to Miho Museum (the building itself is worth seeing). In Kanazawa, you just can’t afford to miss 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art and the new National Crafts Museum. Then of course, there is the Open- Air Museum in Hakone (offering some excellent sculptures and views to go with it).
