Accommodation and Guides

"Excellent accommodation". "All the guides were fantastic and really make the tour. Their knowledge is so extensive and were all totally professional but it was their personalities that really add value to the tour. All of the guides had a great sense of humour."

What did you like best?

  • The time at the Snow Monkey Park.
  • Guided snow shoe trek* (I think the snow shoe trek was good but guests need more introduction to it and the route should be less steep given their wide range of fitness and strength or else have 2 groups for different ability)
  • The Ainu performance
  • Sounkyo ice festival
  • Sapporo Snow Festival
  • Walking around Lake Akan
  • Shin-Hotaka Ropeway and brief walk at the top"

In Summary

"Snow Spectacular was an amazing experience. The tour provided access to wonderful, sometimes remote areas of Japan in the midst of winter. See snow covered mountains, frozen waterfalls, playful snow monkeys and the rare red crested cranes. Fantastic!"

"Good itinerary with many unique experiences included. We particularly liked The Tea Masters visit, the Onsens and their food . We loved the Toyota Museum. The ride in the Rickshaw was something we would not have done ourselves as it seemed a bit touristy but we loved it particularly in that location. The itinerary combined food, culture, gardens art and innovation."

Miyajima.

"We loved this place. We had a quiet room looking over the stream and it was like paradise. Beautiful autumn foliage. It helped us understand why people come to these for the serenity and peace.

Fantastic meal, stunning presentation and attention to detail and beautiful and obliging hostesses despite the fact that they did not speak much English. In our group, we were the only ones who selected the Japanese breakfast, which was just delightful. Lovely dining room. The wooden bath in the outside Onsen was heaven.

"

Value for money

"We think the tour provided excellent value for money. The unique experiences and the number of included meals and quality of food was very good overall. The guides knew their information and were friendly and helpful."

In summary?

"This has been a fabulous and well designed and delivered tour. We were offered such a range of interesting and very unique experiences. One tour managed to immerse us in Japanese culture, food, gardens, innovation and daily life. The organisation was perfect and the guides friendly and warm.

Tour Arrangements?

"6 out of 5! The travel arrangements were superb.  I don’t like bus trips so the extensive use of rail was perfect.  The rail system in Japan is fantastic, as you know, so well done.  We found the transfers were well orchestrated and well executed.  The guides ensured we were on the right station on time, got onto the correct train and sat in the right seats all the time.  We never had any difficulty and only have pleasant memories of the travel component"

Value for money.

"YES.  In composing this tour, Journey to the East has demonstrated great skill and a deep knowledge of Japan.  This is reflected in the apparent ease in which the tour operated.  The logistics underpinning the movement, accommodation and feeding of people, with their baggage on schedule around 8 cities using public transport without a single hiccup is no mean feat.

The special activities included such as entertainment by a maiko, private tea ceremony, the rickshaw ride, the private tour of Nittaiji Temple and extensive exposure of Japanese cuisine made this tour most enjoyable."

What did you enjoy most?

  • entertainment by a maiko,
  • private tea ceremony,
  • the rickshaw ride,
  • the private tour of Nittaiji Temple by a Buddhist monk
  • the cherry blossoms
  • the varied Japanese meals
  • the fabulous guides
  • as a purchaser of this tour, the simplicity of dealing with JttE

How could we improve?

In summary?

"- maybe change the farewell dinner to include a western option."

"My wife and I travelled to Japan with Journey to the East on their Cherry Blossom Spectacular tour.  Not only was the tour expertly planned and executed, it was far more enjoyable than we anticipated.  We were well chaperoned by knowledgeable guides, travelled in comfort on the bullet trains and stayed in quality hotels each night.

The special inclusions of dinner with a maiko, our own private tea ceremony, a 2 hour rickshaw ride, a private temple tour by a Buddhist monk, cherry blossoms galore and exquisite Japanese meals gave us memories to treasure."

It was good advice to have the extra day in Tokyo before and after the tour to allow time to settle in before the tour and travelling home at the end. Value for money?

"Outstanding in terms of value for money. I would tell people that this was one of the key positives of touring with JttE. In a world awash with tours, this is an important aspect of decision-making for many of us.  I did look at other tours and they were either less comprehensive, less interesting or much more expensive. "

Overall assessment?

"I will definitely recommend JttE to others as a company that cares! Also, for this tour, choosing Kyushu as the sole Japanese destination appealed to me as someone who has travelled to the more tourist locations in Japan. My compliments on all aspects of the tour and the company."

Comment for others

"Journey to the East provided a wonderful tour that exceeded my expectations. The accommodation was superior and better than advertised and organisation of the tour was flawless. Fumiko, our guide for the entire tour, was superb: knowledgeable, thoughtful, attentive to our needs, willing to go the extra mile, entertaining and funny. As for the food! We went to many different restaurants and small local places, all of which in their own way turned on superlative meals. Added to this, we visited artisanal shops and small makers of many typical Japanese products. I learned so much about Japanese food culture. This is a great experience not to be missed if you want to learn more about Japan."
